Willamette Apprentice Ballet Concert - Majestic Theatre, Feb 9 and 10, 2007

CORVALLIS -- Willamette Apprentice Ballet, has a concert coming up at the Majestic Theatre in Corvallis: February 9th & 10th, 2007, at 8pm both nights.

TICKETS ARE ONLY $5!! ALL AGES!!

This is going to be a great show! I have an incredibly talented group of twelve dancers, all middle school and high school students from the Corvallis/Albany/Philomath area, performing a variety of dance forms. Yes, there will be a beautiful classical ballet piece with shiny pointe shoes and long white tutus, but there will also be a jazz piece, danced to music by David Benoit, a charming contemporary ballet piece with music by the celtic group Solas, and guest dancers from Portland will be bringing contemporary ballet pieces AND a tap dance piece. The longest piece is only 8 1/2 minutes, so this will be a fast-paced, dynamic show. As for me, my piece was inspired by the music and dance of Indian "Bollywood" films, so I've got my bunheads dancing a unique mix of classical ballet and Indian classical dance...and they are quite good at it! My costume designer, Mariann Jones, has made my dancers 12 absolutely gorgeous traditional Indian saris. The stage will be filled with color! Please mark your calendars, this is a concert you don't want to miss. Feel free to forward this e-mail to anyone else you know who enjoys a good dance concert, and who likes to support local performance groups. And only $5! Such a deal! Hope to see you at the concert!

Thank you!

Director of the Willamette Apprentice Ballet

Dance West at Majestic Theatre Feb 2 and 3,2007

CORVALLIS -- Dance West performs in concert at the Majestic Theater Feb. 2nd and 3rd, 2007 at 7:30 PM, tickets available at the Majestic Box Office. Exciting pieces new to the company are "Quartet for 12 #3", choreographed by Keith Terry, internationally acclaimed for his brilliant ability to use "any surface for it's rhythmic possibilities"; and the sensual contemporary "Balletango", by Gerard Theoret of Cornish College of the Arts.

Returning this year from the company repertoire are "Looking Glass", a satire about the fashion industry, and "Drumline", two signature works by artistic director Julane Stites. Another returning piece is "C-Smooth", a collaboration with tap master Terry Brock that demonstrates the dancers' wide range of training in different dance styles.

Open jazz-modern master classes are planned for Saturday at the Majestic Theatre, instructed by Julane Stites, Dance West artistic director. Class fee is $25, payable at the door, and includes a seat at the 7:30 Saturday evening performance. Advanced Beginner/Intermediate class runs from 10:00-11:25, while a High Intermediate/Advanced class runs from 11:30-1:00, reserve a spot with felice_moskowitz@beavton.k12.or.us or call ACMA at 503-672-3700 x9 and leave a message with Cynthia Hittner.

The company is excited to return to Corvallis where they debuted at the Majestic in 2000. The past year was packed with impressive performances with the Oregon Symphony, Live On Stage, and an invitational gala performance during the National High School Dance Festival in Miami. In addition, the company recently completed industrial shows for Macy's and Columbia Sportswear.

Dance West is the pre-professional dance company housed at the Arts & Communications Magnet Academy (ACMA), a public high school within the Beaverton, Oregon school district. Dance West provides an intensive training program for the school's most advanced dance students, those desiring in-depth technical study and performance experience. After applying for admission and acceptance to the school, dancers ages 13-19 audition for placement and commit to at least one full year of a rigorous training and performance schedule. The students, staff, and administrators share a common goal of developing stellar students with an arts-infused curriculum. Company members participate in a daily schedule of core academic studies, dance technique classes, and a two-and-a-half-hour rehearsal period to pursue dance and associated college or career avenues.
