"My Muse" is a fanciful reflection on that spirit or force that inspires our creativity. The muse, in this case, is personified into a siren of sorts - an imagined romantic object of affection. "My muse is hard to find / can hardly call her mine / where she goes I never know / Playful as the breeze / she walks away with ease / to love her is to let her go..." And of course what could better showcase romance than a flugelhorn solo? This song is one of Rob's favorite to sing and play on - the chords are jazzy, the vocal melody soars to heights that are challenging, the horn lines flow like butter without trying too hard, and the whole track is ultimately intoxicating. Love, loss and longing are all present and accounted for in this one.

Season of Change

The visual subject is a series of photos I took of our backyard Pin Oak tree on consecutive days for several weeks.  I wrote this music with this visual in mind, recorded it and joined the two - it worked out almost perfect timing-wise.  A thank-you tone poem to all fellow travelers, dear friends, and precious family.

Coming Home

This track features me, Rob Birdwell, performing the lead vocal, flugelhorn, and all backing tracks. This visual presentation is one of my first attempts at a "lyric" video. Hopefully the mix of stock footage and some of my own obfuscations will at least be forgiven and hopefully slightly interesting. I used the back of a poster to to serve as my chroma key backing for my flugelhorn faux playing scenes - just one of many things I'm experimenting with to help showcase, well, the song of course!

This tune, "Coming Home" is the opening track on my release "The Past Is Present" (available on Google Play and CD Baby) and is one of the more recent demos in that collection.

The lyric, like most of my work, a product of complete fantasy as I haven't been to a single place mentioned in the lyrics. But the sentiment is true and something I think we all can relate to: that feeling of being far away in this modern age, either physically or emotionally.
